Supermarkets dispose of a very large amount of food because it is approaching a sell-by date, or because of overstocking or for other reasons, such as changes in packaging.
SOFEA is a charity which helps young people to complete their education and become usefully employed, partly by giving them work experience in receiving food that would otherwise be destroyed from supermarkets and delivering it to Community Larders.
In East Hendred, the HEG Community Larder runs on Mondays at Snells Hall, saving waste and making this food available to members at very low cost.
